The most precious asset possessed by our country is our teachers who transmit the culture and values of India to the next generation. Our culture has been handed down from generation to generation during the past years and lies embedded in the hands and souls of millions of our people. Unless the education and training given to teachers acquaint them with the glorious culture and values of India, a sense of pride and the need for its preservation of it cannot be instilled. The teacher education system currently in vogue in our country is too short and fails to equip the would be teachers as true professionals. So NCTE, the national apex body in teacher education has increased the duration as two years and Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam has prepared the curriculum according to the dreams and expectations of NCTE. This book entitled KNOWLEDGE AND CURRICULUM authored by Mary Joseph, Thomas. P.J and Thankachan T.C. has been prepared following M.G. University syllabus and the contemporary vision of teacher education. I have gone through the book and am sure that it is useful to teachers and teacher educators as a reference book. The authors have made a serious attempt to discuss all the important areas and relevant topics.
